Rest of quote for those interested in said advice:

Bart: Yeah, you did. You told me when something’s bothering you, and you’re too damn stupid to know what to do, just keep your fool mouth shut. At least that way you won’t make things worse.

    Homer: Hmmm, good advice.

Wow, The Simpsons back in season one had a lot of ass-backwards parenting advice. No one people hated this show.

I think sometime after season two or three (or whenever the show got popular with the mainstream) they stopped doing that, which is sad, because, after trying to find out what was so “subversive” about this show after all this time, I found it and, like most stuff going from underground to mainstream, it had to give that up to appeal to a wider audience so as not to offend them.

That’s really a good advice, though. If you’re thinking something is wrong that doesn’t mean it IS wrong, and often bringing that into context, you only make things worse.
Moral: Keep your fucking thoughts to yourself. (not you, Patty, but in general I mean).

Agreed, I have grown to appreciate the very early seasons much more as I have gotten “older” (I’m only 20).

As a little kid I would see reruns of season 1 on Fox and considered the crude animation to be inferior and that it wasn’t as funny (even boring) since it didn’t seem so deliberate and in your face. You are right in that the show became somewhat tamer as it gained more mainstream attention, such as how they cut back on the swearing.

You’re an idiot who can’t understand a joke. You would have done well to follow the advice given here.
