Sunday Preview: The Burns Cage

The_Burns_Cage_promo_2

Smithers is upset with Mr. Burns’ lack of affection towards him, so Homer plays matchmaker and tries to find him a boyfriend. Meanwhile, Bart maneuvers the removal of the lead in the school production of “Casablanca,” leaving Milhouse as a subpar understudy, which frustrates his costar, Lisa.

Happy Sunday all. Tonight’s episode should prove for ‘great’ Homer hijinks, as he will try to get Smithers hooked up.   In the B Plot we will probably get to see Milhouse cry more than once. I am pretty sure they have already used the character in the above promo pic for a gay guy voiced by Hank Azaria, who I would guess is going to voice him again tonight.  Unless of course the character of ‘Julio’ is being voiced by tonight’s guest: George Takei. I wouldn’t put it past anyone on the staff, but I guess we’ll see.

I am hoping they don’t blunder this up and stick Smithers with Julio for the remainder of the show’s run. That would probably be the biggest stab in the back to us considering the show has been treating Burns and Smithers as an unofficial item since season 2.

Not to mention that Julio is such a wretched character.

I mean he is so token in comparison to a lot of the other members on the show. Somehow by doing this [pairing him up with Smithers] the staff may feel shoving him down our throats is the best way to build his character and even though I don’t want to say that’s what is going to happen, but I cannot shake this nagging feeling it is exactly the premise when this ends.

I hope not. Maybe I am being such a pessimistic asshole.

I await you (or someone else out there) tearing this episode a new asshole. Perhaps it’s just me being a disgruntled lesbian, but my gut tells me that this one will be extra-cringeworthy.

I always wondered what watching two lesbians lick each other out would feel like. Can I wank off while doing that? Maybe big tits would help.

I guess this episode will be nothing but gay jokes.

So far, they’ve been doing surprisingly well. Both Smithers and even the Julio guy are being treated like normal human beings, and the gay jokes weren’t too much.

Yeah I am actually surprised that this was done well. I have to see it again to pick up on more details, but I would have to rank it up there with Halloween of Horror in quality.

I was worried they would pull a Skinner/Edna there for a second. but wow, we get to see Burns open up a bit more which is refreshing since Smithers’ role in the show is to humanize him.

Well, that was terrible. I’ll just sprinkle you all with some amnesia dust!

I can’t put my finger on why Smithers seems like a completely different character these days. Is it the voice? The fact that he’s always grumpy? Whatever the reason, at least the other characters somewhat resemble their former selves. The guy in this episode was not Smithers.

What are you talking about? We see the reason why he is grumpy and not only to boot he is actually doing his job like he did in the first few seasons outside of the bootlicking. There is a reason why Homer used to refer to Smithers as a jerk was because he clamped down on Homer and made him actually do his job.

Thanks for the response! So it turns out Smithers isn’t different after all, since he was grumpy sometimes in the first couple of seasons as well. You’re right, what WAS I talking about?

He didn’t get me. I’m not above admitting something like that. I was literally asking why Smithers seems like a different character. He’s implying that he isn’t zombified at all.

“Why is this often angry character acting angry?”
              “Because he’s often angry”
“Well, look who thinks them and their facts are so smart”

That’s not what happened. You’re just pickin’ on me because you think I’m some guy you hate from twitter, or because you don’t like how I argue with Stan or something.

90 seconds for the episode to fall apart, that’s a new record.

    • 4 April 2016 at 1:55 pm

Out of curiosity, what was the old record?

Does the 90 seconds count include the title sequence? Because I am sure HD Episodes died a death within 90 seconds after the title sequence ended x

If I remember correctly it was about 3 minutes. And the title sequences/couch gags do not count.
The previous holder was earlier this season on that episode about the washing machine.
